Covid Testing - A comprehensive supported service

We provide a simple service (Monday to Friday) which is best suited to patients resident close to our general medical practice in Chelsea. We use self-administered PCR testing. Self-administered tests are simple to use and come with complete instructions. Our laboratories offer a 24-hour turnaround time which is generally assisted by us receiving specimens before 10.30am. The cost is £195 per test and £350 for travel related day 2 and 8 tests if ordered together.

This applies to patients who wish to undergo a test that is not travel related. Usually this is to test for the virus if covid infection is suspected or to demonstrate absence of infection.

For Departures From UK

Fit to Fly Testing

This is usually a requirement within 72 hours of flight or departure time. Details should be checked with travel organisers, airlines and country of destination.

For Arrivals to UK - (Note that the day of arrival is counted as Day 0)

Day 2 Testing

Day 2 testing is usually a legal requirement for all UK arrivals and can be carried out at any time after arrival up to and including day 2.

Day 2 and 8 Testing

For arrivals from some countries two tests are a legal requirement. The day 2 test can be carried out at any time after arrival up to and including day 2 and the day 8 test can be carried out on day 8 or any day after that.

Test to Release Scheme

This scheme allows release from isolating when a negative result is recorded from a test conducted on day 5. This is an entirely optional test.

Day 2 testing for fully vaccinated arrivals from amber countries

This requires testing at any time after arrival up to and including day 2 but also requires proof of 2 vaccines administered as part of the UK vaccination scheme and completed at least 2 weeks before arrival. You need to have been in the amber country for 10 days before arrival. You do not need to quarantine on arrival or have a test on day 8.

WARNING: The main problems that we encounter are to do with patients providing incomplete or inaccurate information on the forms that are required for travel related testing. The laboratories are under UK government instruction not to process tests unless the information is complete and accurate. Many people find the process stressful and we advise a careful approach to completion of the forms. We are happy to advise and share our experience but cannot take any responsibility for errors with the forms or any other aspects of the testing as they are sometimes complex, outside our control and subject to change without warning.
